Preliminary restoration project for the Serbatoio dell’Acqua Marcia e Pia
Parco dei Daini, Villa Borghese, Rome, from May 2018 to July 2020
In May 2018, in accordance with art. 2 of its statute, the Association decided to develop a feasibility project for the restoration of the Serbatoio dell’Acqua Marcia e Pia, located in the Parco dei Daini at Villa Borghese, just a few meters from Galleria Borghese.
The structure, the work of architect Raffaele De Vico, is a water supply facility for the Pinciano district built in the early twentieth century. It is a work of great artistic value which, unfortunately, is in an evident state of abandonment and deterioration, to the point that it had to be fenced off because of the risk of falling plaster portions.
The Association appointed Bioedil Progetti S.r.l., which developed a comprehensive feasibility project including a full restoration intervention project and technical specifications. On 18 July 2019, after receiving the consent and goodwill of the Capitoline Administration directly from Mayor Hon. Virginia Raggi, the Association filed the project with the Mayor’s Cabinet, which forwarded it to the Soprintendenza Capitolina for assessment and development.
Unfortunately, after one year and despite the commitment shown, the Association received no feedback from the Institutions and therefore considered that at this time the conditions did not exist to continue the initiative. On 12 June 2020, the project was therefore officially withdrawn and the allocated funds released so that they could be dedicated to other charitable initiatives.
The Association carried out important work and possesses a comprehensive and feasible project, which it hopes to develop in the near future, with the aim of recovering a splendid architectural structure and restoring dignity to the area surrounding Galleria Borghese.
The cost of the project was 11,400 euro, entirely supported with Association funds.
